A man died last week after collapsing at a Planet Fitness club in Michigan, according to a report.
The 57-year-old man fell while working out on a treadmill last Wednesday night at the club at the Mall of Monroe, the Monroe (Mich.) News reported. The incident occurred at around 7:45 p.m. From the newspaper:
A witness told deputies that she was on a treadmill next to the victim when he suddenly fell forward and then backward. She said the victim was sitting up, but had trouble breathing. He then collapsed.
The witness began performing CPR until paramedics arrived. The man, who has not been identified publicly, was pronounced dead at 8:30 p.m.
Family members told police the man had no prior health issues and was not taking medication.
Owners Jim Matthew and Dennis Backos opened the Planet Fitness in the 24,000-square-foot former Office Max space in April 2014. Monroe is about 40 miles south of Detroit. Matthew and Backos own other Planet Fitness clubs in the Detroit area.
